Email Scam Targets Disabled Veterans

Beware of a recent scam involving fraudulent emails sent to veterans
A recent scam involves fraudulent emails sent to veterans receiving federal disability benefits. The emails appear to come from Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) and indicate that those receiving disability benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs might be eligible for additional funding from the Internal Revenue Service.
Never send your personal information, or copies of your tax returns or 1099s to the individual listed in the email. Read more at dfas.mil.
If you’ve received emails supposedly from DFAS that you think are attempts to defraud you, call 888-332-7411 to verify if DFAS is attempting to contact you regarding a pay-related issue. Also, read DFAS’s policy regarding email contact with customers.
