On May 19, the Florida Gulf Coast Paralyzed Veterans of America participated in Congressman Gus Bilirakis's annual Military & Veteran's Resource Fair at the East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs.

Congressman Bilirakis is the vice chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

The event had informational booths that provided services and resources for active duty servicemen and women and veterans.

Highlights included a parachute jump by the U.S. Southern Command Para-Commandos from MacDill Air Force Base, a Coast Guard helicopter flyover, and a patriotic concert by the East Lake High School Band & Chorus.

The audience heard an emotional speech by a Gold Star Mother who praised the USO for the help she and her husband received upon the loss of their son in combat in Afghanistan.

More than 465,000 veterans live in the eight counties surrounding Tampa, plus 12,000 plus active duty military personnel at MacDill Air Force Base.
