Stand at Ease
A new device from a Turkish research and design firm may help wheelchair users stand with no outside help.

AMS Mekatronic calls its Tek Robotic Mobilization Device (RMD) a totally new concept and platform for wheelchair users. The idea of the device is to allow individuals with paraplegia to independently stand up in a completely upright position with correct posture. This would help with their overall health while providing movement and assisting them to comfortably complete their daily indoor tasks.
The Tek RMD comes in five sizes and went on the market in Turkey earlier this year for about $15,000. AMS Mekatronic is in the process of securing outlets in the United States.
